Installing a Charger

Installing home charging equipment involves a few simple steps – from consulting with your auto dealer to working with your local utility and licensed electrical contractor. Purchasing and installing Level 2 charging equipment can cost around $1,500 for the typical California household.  Your specific cost will depend on the age of the home, the home’s total electrical capacity, and existing electrical loads.  Each home is different, so installation costs vary according to your circumstances.

Permitting

In California, permit costs for installing charging equipment in your home vary widely.  The average permit costs about $200, but they can range from $50 - $600. Some cities have implemented an expedited permitting process whereas other cities are still taking a little more time to process them.
